Join Volo

We're enrolling for 2026-27. The Luminary is limited to 15 students. Enrollment begins with a conversation by phone, Zoom, or in person, to discuss your child's needs and Volo's approach.

Joining Volo is a conversation,
not a checklist.

You already know something needs to change. Your child deserves an education that fits who they actually are; one that preserves and fosters their curiosity, creativity, and who they are.

We start by listening. Tell us about your child: what lights them up, what challenges them, what you're hoping for. We'll share what life at Volo actually looks like and answer the questions that matter to you.

Our goal is the same as yours: clarity about whether this is the right place for your family.

1
Start a conversation
By phone, Zoom, or in person, whatever's easiest. Share your story. We'll share ours. Ask anything. This is a real conversation with people who care about getting it right, not a sales call.
2
Go deeper
Meet our educators. Talk with current Volo families through our parent ambassadors. Read our Parent Guide. Ask the hard questions. We want you to understand what you're choosing.
3
Decide with confidence
When both sides feel alignment, we'll walk you through enrollment, deposits, and scheduling. No pressure, just clarity about next steps and what your child's year will look like.
The education your child
hasn't found yet

Most schools sort children by age, move them through material according to a standard pace, and measure success with tests. That system works for some kids. For others, it slowly drains the curiosity and confidence they came in with.

Volo starts from a different premise: well-being first. Children learn best when the work is real, the relationships are deep, and they have room to move at their own pace. Our students measure stream flow for math, write while perched on rocks, collaborate on restoration projects that change actual landscapes, and present their learning to real audiences.

Children shouldn't have to lose their spark to gain an education.

The Luminary enrolls a maximum of 15 students — small enough that every child is genuinely known by every adult and every peer. With a student-to-teacher ratio of 7:1, no one gets lost, overlooked, or left waiting for the class to catch up.

"Our son comes home and explains in full detail something he learned that day with enthusiasm and excitement. Questions are encouraged, and I can't think of a greater opportunity to build confidence in their abilities."

Children who thrive here

The children who do best at Volo are the ones who come alive when they're trusted to ask real questions, to work with their hands, to struggle with something hard and know they did it themselves.

Some of our students arrived quiet and unsure. They found their voice because the community was small enough to hear it. Some arrived restless and bored. They found focus because the work was worth paying attention to.

What they share is curiosity and creativity.

Families who belong here

Volo works best when families and educators share a few core convictions: that childhood should include challenge and joy in equal measure, that nature is essential and not optional, that kindness and honesty are non-negotiable, and that a school should know your child as a whole person.

You don't need to have all the answers about alternative education. You just need to be open to the possibility that your child might learn more — and love it more — when the environment fits them instead of the other way around.

Because we enroll a maximum of 15 students, each family's commitment to the community matters.
What families ask us
What does "fit" mean at Volo?
It means the learning environment, expectations, and values align well with your child and your family. Our enrollment process is designed to help everyone decide with clarity and confidence — not to create gatekeeping.
Does my child need a portfolio or prior experience?
No. We're interested in who your child is now, not how they've been assessed elsewhere. No testing, no transcripts, no preparation required.
Can we visit before deciding?
We're happy to arrange a visit if that would help your family. We've found that most families learn what they need through conversation with our educators and current parents — but we're flexible about what the process looks like for you.
How long is the commitment?
Enrollment is for a school year. Many families choose to stay multiple years, but we recognize that circumstances change.
Is Volo right for every child?
No — and that's okay. Volo is intentionally small and values depth, relationship, and engagement. Families seeking standardized testing, letter grades, or large-school amenities may find a better fit elsewhere. That's not a judgment — it's just a different set of priorities.
Can I use the Utah Fits All Scholarship at Volo?
Yes. Volo is an approved UFA school and vendor, so the scholarship works whether you're enrolling full-time or adding our Friday Quest to your homeschool. See our cost page for details on how UFA works with enrollment.
"I truly believe the only way we can create global peace is through educating not only our minds but our hearts and our souls."
